About the artist:
Hecho A Mano means "Made By Hand" in Spanish. The people behind Hecho a Mano are all family members from Taxco, Mexico. The head of the family was once Jose Luis Flores, a renowned silversmith in Taxco, Mexico who once worked with the father of Taxco's modern silver tradition, William Spratling. His nephew is now at the helm, Manuel Porcayo Figueroa and he continues to make every piece by hand, from shaping the stones his pieces often include to crafting the silver metal into wearable art. Manuel once worked in the studio of Antonio Castillo, another noteworthy Taxco artisan, and he has been permitted by Antonio's estate to reproduce many of his eye-catching designs. Aside from Castillo pieces, Manuel and his family produce their own intricate, beautifully crafted designs as well. Hecho A Mano represents the best of the silversmith tradition still alive in Taxco today.
